Formed in 2005, the Chiaroscuro Quartet performs music of the Classical period with historical instruments and approach.
The quartet's engagements have included London´s Wigmore Hall, York Early Music Centre, the Auditorium du Louvre Paris, Theatre du Jeu de Paume in Aix-en-Provence, Festival Les Vacances de Monsieur Haydn, BBC Radio 3 lunchtime concert at the Sage Gateshead as well as West Cork and Cheltenham music festivals.
In 2009, following an Aldeburgh Residency, the quartet gave a series of 'Aldeburgh on Tour' concerts at St. George's Bristol, Royal Northern College of Music, Kings Place London, Cambridge Music Festival and the Aldeburgh Easter Festival.
In September 2011 the Chiaroscuro Quartet released their debut album of music by Mozart and Schubert to critical acclaim. The CD, recorded for the French label Aparté, was awarded Choc de L’annee Classica and was praised in Télérama Magazine, France and featured in BBC Music Magazine as 'Chamber Choice'. Future releases will include quartets by Beethoven to be recorded for Aparté in 2012.
Future engagements include the Quartet’s debut at the Auditorium de Dijon, Royal Opera House Stockholm and Hindsgavl Festival in Denmark. The Quartet will also return to the Wigmore Hall in London, Festival Les Vacances de Monsieur Haydn in France, the West Cork Music Festival and continue their cycle of Mozart quartets in Port-Royal-des-Champs.
