Band - Electric Farm

Songwriter extraordinaire Steve Forbert recently compared the sound of the Farm's latest CD to that of folk icon Nick Drake. Now imagine that through a filter of Ray Davies/The Kinks and Neil Young via Bright Eyes and Elliott Smith, and you'll start to get an inkling of the irresistible sound of The Electric Farm. The original compositions by singer-songwriter Joey Mutis III take soft pop into a folky space-rock situation, including moody string arrangements in a style remininscent of Beck's SEA CHANGES. The Electric Farm was chosen to perform a select Tri-Centric showcase at NERFA (North East Regional Folk Alliance) in November 2007. Their original song "Thinkin' 'Bout My Friend" was included in three television shows: the premiere of the new Fox show DRIVE, an episode on the DVD for CBS' CRIMINAL MINDS, and in two episodes of the DVD release of the eighties hit THE FALL GUY. Songs off the third self-titled CD include "Unspoken Love," which was showcased in an episode of the CBS crime drama NUMB3RS, and "Man of the Town," a favorite of Philly Folk Icon Gene Shay. Mr. Shay also presented The Electric Farm at a key showcase at NERFA. Originally selected from over 600 submissions, "Man of the Town" first appeared on the PHILADELPHIA PHAST PHOLKS CD compilation from Fast Folk Magazine, a New York-based talent antenna who were the first to record such music notables as Suzanne Vega, Shawn Colvin, and John Gorka. Earlier albums, the BOOMSCHLANG VIPER STORY and SIX ranked 1 on the CMJ charts (WNTI in Hackettstown, NJ) and among "Top Philly Band Picks" by WHPN Program Director Bruce Warren respectively. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Pete Buck of REM played mandolin on early demos recorded by the band at John Keane's studio in Athens, Georgia. Keane, known for his work with REM, Vic Chestnutt, Cowboy Junkies, Indigo Girls and others, also played pedal steel on a few tracks. Their song "Shabby Girl," off the Boomschlang album, was used in the popular television show ONE TREE HILL and the 20th Century Fox movie DRIVE ME CRAZY. Several songs were also featured in two independent films, as well as a recent documentary on the venerable Bethlehem, PA coffeehouse Godfrey Daniels...which Mutis considers a "home base" and the band consistently performs to sold-out audiences. Regional press has called Mutis "an exceptional (and eclectic) songwriting talent" with a "gift for evoking feelings and moods." Booking: Harbortown
