Band - Neeko

neeko was born in 1979 in Hamburg, Germany. In the age of fourteen he and his crew started the first sessions with belt-driven turntables in an old caravan in his parent's garden. Hip-Hop culture of the 90s soon became the most powerful influence for his growing personality. It coined both, his observable path of life as well as his mental ripening. In the age of 16, neeko was digging his father's dusty record-collection and spend the days musing about producing loops. Once he had his first sampler to experiment with, one fundamental miracle occured in his life: Where did Primo find those hypnotic Jazz Samples? From DJing, hosting a Radio-Show, working in a record store and in music management, neeko became a student of musicology.br /neeko always walked on a line between living the culture's ideology and reflecting and questioning it. For him, this attitude is not contradictory. He regards Hip-Hop to be based upon open structures, which can be freely connected by individual creativity and filled with personal content. br /br /Increasing encounters with Jazz , Soul and electronic music lead to a deep friendship with these genres and extended the borders of his sound-comprehension. "No neccesities" - with this attitude, neeko dedicated himself to the thought of sampling. He percepts himself to create in the tradition of "diggin in the crates". Always grubbing for records, he scans sound storing mediums for utilisable material. While listening, he automatically minds sound-units, which can be sampled or looped. neeko makes his finds pliable and uses tones and sounds in terms of historically availabe variables. Deconstruction, alienation and combination are his methods. In the manner of a quotation, the novel usage of the edited material as sounds, beats ans loops creates a bridge from the present into the past. Musicians who could have never met gain a common presence. br /br /neekos approach is comparable to the techniques of montage and collage in visual art, therefore it is not abstract. What sounds artificial in theory, is perfect listening pleasure in practice. Loops take themselves by the hand and walk a part of the same way together, play with each other and fertilize mutually. A meandrous band, which could be unendingly plaited...an exeptional musicality is beeing created. Everything has ist format and place, but the combiantion creates a tension, which is far beyond the potential of the individual parts. neeko makes the in-between swing - by arranging, he endows the inner space a sound.
