The band Washington originates from the arctic north of Tromsø, Norway. Tromsø is founded on a small fishing community and the area has been inhabited since the end of the ice age. Most of Tromsø, including the city centre, is located on the small island of Tromsøya in the county of Troms, 350 km (217 mi) inside the Arctic Circle.

Washington, the band, are currently releasing their latest album Rouge/Noir in Europe and Scandinavia. It follows the debut album, A New Order Rising (2005) and Astral Sky (2007). Their music is a bit indie; a genre of alternative rock music that originated in the United Kingdom in the mid '80s. It is a bit pop; a genre which features a noticeable rhythmic element, melodies and hooks, a mainstream style and conventional structure. A bit rock; a loosely-defined genre of popular music that developed during and after the 1960s. And also a bit Americana; an amalgam of roots music fused by the confluence of the shared and varied traditions that make up the American musical ethos; specifically those sounds that are merged from folk, country, rhythm & blues, rock & roll and other external influential styles.

Washington are currently signed to the renowned and iconic Glitterhouse, an independent record label based in Beverungen, Germany.

Washington are originally three members. The job of singing, an act of producing musical sounds with the voice, which is often contrasted with speech, is down to Rune Simonsen. He also plays the guitar, an instrument which typically has six strings, but four, seven, eight, ten and twelve string guitars also exist. Esko Pedersen is the drummer, a musician who plays a drum or drums, particularly a drum kit ("drum set" or "trap set"), marching percussion or hand drums. Andreas Høyer plays the bass guitar, a stringed instrument played primarily with the fingers or thumb (either by plucking, slapping, popping, tapping, or thumping), or by using a pick.
